With my weight loss clients, one of the biggest things I discourage is missing a significant amount of protein at breakfast. Why?
Packing in the protein at the beginning of the day helps regulate our hunger hormones throughout the day, so we don’t feel like bingeing on all the food once we get home at the end of the day. We also need to remember there is an upper limit for how much protein our bodies can use at one time, therefore it is helpful to spread our protein throughout the day.
One of the best ways to reduce afternoon or evening cravings is to have the right kind of breakfast.
Who has time to make a hearty and balanced breakfast in the morning on a busy workday? If we’re motivated, we may set 15-20 minutes aside to make a nice veggie omelette or some fruit pancakes topped with almonds and maple syrup. How about the times we need to rush out the door? Here is your answer!
Lately I’ve been experimenting with trying to incorporate fresh herbs into my recipes. A minimal amount of fresh herbs can add so much flavour profile to a dish without the added calories! A dietitian’s dream! However, the issue with a recipe only calling for a minimal amount of herbs is that…so much is left over! What is to be done with the leftovers before these wonderfully fragrant flavorings expire in the back of our refrigerators? See below for a couple of ideas.
