A Critical look at Natural, Hormone and Antibiotic Claims

Confused with claims such as natural, hormone-free, antibiotic-free? You’re not the only one. The food industry has been increasingly using such claims as a marketing strategy to a health & animal-welfare concerned audience. Let’s look into the quality of the standards surrounding the usage of these claims established by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).  Then there’s the big question – am I making a healthier choice by choosing a product with these claims?

Protein: Recent Research on Maintaining Muscle Mass

I get asked a lot about protein in and outside of the workplace. I’ve done a couple of posts on protein thus far (check them out here and here). In order to avoid repeating myself, I’m going to explore protein in a slightly different light: how to consume protein to maintain muscle mass throughout life and into older adulthood.

Sugar: The Bait of The Food Industry?

This has created a culture of elimination and food shame…which are not healthy ways of viewing food! Let me dive into some of my least favourite food trends.

How to Expertly Navigate the Yogurt Aisle

The yogurt aisle is the most confusing and overwhelming aisle to navigate at the grocery store! It’s definitely the section I spend the longest time in. The yogurt aisle isn’t what it used to be – greek yogurt has recently taken over a sizeable chuck of the refrigerator case, leaving non-greeks to compete for the remaining real estate. Meanwhile, both greek and non-greek yogurts are branching out with new claims, nutrient content, flavours, ect.
