Nutrition Genetic Testing

Are you drinking too much coffee?
What about salt?
Are you getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids?

Nutrigenomics can help answer these questions.

Nutrigenomics is the study of how individual genetic variation affects a person’s response to nutrients and impacts the risk of nutrition-related chronic diseases.

It has long been apparent that some people respond differently from others to certain foods. For example, individuals with lactose intolerance experience gastrointestinal discomfort after consuming certain dairy products, while other individuals can consume dairy with no problems. Nutrigenomics allows us to understand how our genes affect the way we respond to the foods, beverages and supplements we consume.

A simple test can reveal how your body responds to different foods and nutrients, based on your individual genetic profile. This test is done through a company called Nutrigenomix. The test is done by collecting a small sample of saliva, which is used to isolate DNA. This test is available only through qualified health care practitioners, including Registered Dietitians. I am now offering this tests to my clients. If you would like to find out more, contact me.
